I tried to get on DeafRead, hoping that I can reach out to more people. I was just talking to another deaf womyn who has a blog (http://www.deafanxiety.blogs.com/) and would have been extremely helpful to many many deaf people. They rejected her blog because it’s not deaf enough.
I submitted this blog last weekend and again today. Still heard nothing from them. No wonder the deaf community is full of sick people and people who continue to perpetuate denial of mental health support or services. DeafRead is a perfect example of that! Shame on them!

that’s horribly hypocritical, when they try to emphasize inclusivity (ie. roehm’s anti-deaf blogs, 392738 ci-based blogs).
what can we do to help?
Other than revealing myself, there’s nothing we can really do except let those we know, know about this blog.
Can let Deafread know via their editor emails to include this. They are supposed to send an email letting me know if Deaf Bipolar is accepted or not….haven’t heard a peep! I did send a note to a couple of editors whom I know, one hasn’t answered in over a week and one just got my note last night…sigh!
Guess fear of mental illness and rampant ignorance invading their domain scares them away. There’s a psych group called Alternative Solutions and they were accepted…They don’t always talk about being deaf. Guess it’s cuz they’re more deaf than me or that other friend and her blog even though we’re deeply entrenched in the community and talk about mental illness and being deaf.
“This doesn’t happen to us” mentality Jeez
Yeah my website was rejected from deafread because its not related to deaf issue. But now you brought up good point that DeafRead accept Alternative Solutions hmm now this makes me wonder hmmmm
GoAwayAnxiety…yeah, makes me wonder.
I’m not going to worry about them anymore. I think quality people will come on this blog this way, than to get the masses to write and we may get a bunch of jerks that we don’t need or want. Sometimes the best PR is word of mouth.
So I’m going to accept that DeafRead folks is full of ignorance and they can just go screw themselves and keep the community limited and sick. We both know what we want, and that is to live a full, productive life despite our disorders.
