Today I got an incredible 144 hits just for bringing up the sign for Bipolar. Jeez! Is that what the deaf community has come to? Signs vs issues.

I feel pity…sad…that discussing issues such as being bipolar is NOTHING compared to what the sign for being bipolar is. Shows a lot of shallowness. Which is sometimes why I feel so blah with the deaf community in general. No meat or depth.

Or maybe I’m just silly or paranoid…

Bipolar.. sometimes it is a strong word for some people. Deaf or hearing.

I just want to hug you SO SO SO hard for being brave and candid about this.

Mental health, as a whole, is never an easy subject to discuss freely without taboo or inhibitions.

I currently take Effexor and it works a lot much better than Celexa.

You are NOT being silly or paranoid at all because it is your candid approach that brought more hits to your blog today.

The fact you posted a new sign for bipolar opened up a new avenue of communication and I truly thank you for this. A few days ago in YLive Chat (DeafRead Live Chat), there was a rather candid debate about bipolar issues.

Several chatters were fingerspelling b-i-p-o-l-a-r and thanks to you.. today, I know how to sign bipolar!

    *big throaty hugs*

    Thank YOU so much!!
    Tactile smile,
    Patty

prove our point of discussion all along smile… the deaf community always will be at war with each others ownership is more like it..

I am just sick of that kind of war.. it is a strong word and it might be reminding them of their own issues or family members having these illness. One way or another it has to be explored within themselves rather than criticizing the souls who actually need a pair of eyes and being there.

    love love love ya…

    Thanks Patty and Kat.

I guess Im just so tired of the superfical attitudes(sp)of the deaf community in general. I forget there are individuals within who really are full of life, depth and positiveness.

So i missed a good discussion abt Bipo? Damn! and Deafread isn’t really being accepting of this blog yet as far as I can see….correct me if I’m wrong.
    love to you both!

I know why you’re smirking, kat…heh! ASC did have a dialogue going sometimes last Feb on being bipolar http://www.ascdeaf.com/blog/?p=333 . At the time, I didn’t know about it until last week and read through both the vlog and the ensuing comments. The vlog was informative but the comments much as people try to understand it was just too superficial. Hmmm….I must be a demanding bitch or something….
I left a comment there, but it’s still in moderation, which means they don’t check their v/blogs very often unfortunately and I guess I fell through the cracks. Screw em!

Whatever, we need everything we can get, just wish they would be a little more realistic with REAL people sharing their issue rather than people saying they learn ‘oh so much’ blah blah blah blah…This doesn’t help those of us who have to live with it on a daily basis.

I submitted a link for this blog entry to deafread which is why there were so many hits.. if I tipped over a can of worms then I want to apologize.

people are more wiling to talk when about things they can understand/relate to and not a lot of people understand mental illness. it can be fustrating, but your efforts will pay off eventually.

Hallooo — I’ve used your sign for Bipolar — it only touches the surface of what Bipolar is. Like a lot of signs — it doesn’t always convey the true meaning of the word yet it conveys the gist of it sometimes.

Sometimes people nitpik on what they feel they can tear apart and look ’smart’ rather than addressing the real issue — too big or too sensitive or not ready to talk/explore it.

    Hugs!!!!

Comarade, no worries. I should be grateful at least that 144 people took a look at this blogsite, rather than be sarcastic as I’m prone to be.

both DioSiobhan and Comrade is right. People do what they do because either they dont know what it means and wants to look ’smart’ or they are just plain scared. Funny thing is, this blog accepts pseudonyms because this is such a sensitive issue. Anyone could speak out. But guess fear has a way of invading even the best of us!

PS: Comrade, thanks for submitting the blog….its only for this particular sign thing but at least people have looked.

Also, I should be grateful im not lost amongst all the other topics especially CIs and one legged disabled hearing people as well as picky pick pick on asl and stuff…

Uniqueness is what makes us different.
